ProtectedIdentify the following (include political party of elected officials):

Newsmakers:

1. Syracuse Mayor:

Democrat Stephanie A. Miner is the 53rd Mayor of the City of Syracuse. She was elected on November 3, 2009, receiving 50.1% of the vote. She is the first woman elected mayor in any of upstate New York's Big Four cities.

The Syracuse Post-Standard endorsed Miner’s 2009 candidacy for Mayor.

In 2002, Miner became a Syracuse Common Councilor-at-Large after winning city-wide election. Re-elected to the Council in 2005, she received the most votes of any candidate on the ballot, including the incumbent Mayor. As a Councilor, she championed and helped pass legislation that gave $1 million in initial funding to Say Yes to Education, a program that provides necessary support services for Syracuse City School District students. As Mayor, she continues to support the program.

Mayor Miner believes in the quality of neighborhood life. On her drives through the city, she regularly takes pictures of code violations from her Blackberry camera and sends them to the code enforcement office for prompt action.
